What is monocacy aquaduct?

The Monocacy Aqueduct is a historic stone aqueduct in Maryland, USA. It was part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, which operated from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. Constructed between 1829 and 1833, the Monocacy Aqueduct spans the Monocacy River and is the largest of the eleven aqueducts built along the canal. It measures 516 feet long and 57 feet wide, and its walls are made of thick sandstone blocks quarried from nearby Sugarloaf Mountain. The aqueduct served as an important transport link for goods between Washington, D.C. and the Ohio River Valley until it was damaged during the Civil War. It was restored in the 1930s and is now a popular attraction for visitors to the area.
